Archie's Baxcalibur

Archie's Baxcalibur (or its predecessor, Archie's Blastoise) is a deck that aims to go second, set up Baxcalibur
on turn 1 thanks to Archie's Ace in the Hole
, then win the game by using various attackers, most notably Chien-Pao ex
, which has an unlimited damage cap and an Ability that searches for Energy, and Radiant Greninja
which combines a great attack with draw power.
Archie's Baxcalibur suffers from the same issues as many aggro decks in the current metagame: its play pattern, while incredibly cool, relies on several factors, and so it is easily disrupted, mostly by Item lock, (Vileplume
) or Ability lock (Garbodor
). The deck needs to play all its Item cards to empty its hand, so much that going first, and getting hit by Budew
's Itchy Pollen before Baxcalibur is in play, can be devastating. In this situation, the deck usually needs to set up an attacker manually and deal with Budew before it can start working properly.
When it's not disrupted, though, Archie's Baxcalibur is a lot of fun to play, and can run an impressive variety of attackers from the extra-Prize-taking Articuno
to Palkia GX
. It's also a good deck for newcomers to Expanded to learn sequencing.
